Machine Groups are removed when doing a Virtual Environment Collection in VMware vCenter Configuration Manager 5.x (2020439)

Symptoms

Machine groups in VCM are automatically deleted when running data collections using the VMware vCenter Configuration Manager (VCM) 5.5 Virtual Environments datatype(s).

Cause

This issue is caused by incorrect logic within the VCM code.

Resolution

Apply the attached SQL script to the VCM database or contact VMware technical support and reference this KB article (KB ID 2020439).

Additional Information

Note: Applying this fix does not restore previously-deleted VCM Machine Groups. It only prevents them from being automatically deleted in the future.
