Performance data does not get collected for one or more hosts in vCenter Server 5.x (2020277)

Performance graphs display successfully, but one or more hosts fail to display any data after a certain date and time
Realtime performance data is displayed correctly for all hosts
One or more hosts show that the data collection stopped on the same time and date
In the vpxd.log file, you see the error:

[09160 error 'Default' opID=SWI-f62ada57] [VpxdMoHost::ProcessPerfResults] Not collecting stats this time on host host-4870 because sample list is empty
In the stats.log file, you see entries similar to:

[2012-03-20 12:41:20,822 http-8443-2 ERROR com.vmware.vim.stats.webui.chart.StatsChartServlet] Unable to generate performance chart image. Details: Error while drawing chart report.

This is a known issue affecting VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x and 5.1.x. Currently, there is no resolution.

A resolution for this issue is being evaluated for inclusion in a future release.
