VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat replication fails to start after upgrading with the error: failed to execute plan (2020261)

Cause

This issue occurs if the Interceptor driver fails to properly install, which prevents it from loading.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:
  1. Shut down vCenter Server Heartbeat on both the active and passive nodes, electing to leave the applications running.
  2. Navigate to the drivers directory on the active server ( install_path\R2\drivers\nfid\version).
  3. Right click on the nfid.inf file and click Install.
  4. Restart vCenter Server Heartbeat on both the active and passive nodes.
