Downgrading from VMware Workstation 8 to VMware Workstation 7 (2019528)
Purpose
Resolution
To downgrade your virtual hardware and Workstation installation:
- Shut down the virtual machine.
- Downgrade the virtual hardware:
- Right-click the virtual machine and select Manage.
- Click Change Hardware Compatibility.
- The Change Hardware Compatibility Wizard appears.
- Click Next, then select 6.5 - 7.x in the Hardware Compatibility dropdown.
- Click Next.
- Select your choice when asked to create a clone or alter the virtual machine.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Click Close.
- Downgrade VMware Workstation:
- Manually uninstall VMware Workstation 8. For more information, see:

Linux: Manually uninstalling VMware Workstation from Linux hosts (38) - Download and install Workstation 7.x.
- Start the virtual machine.
- Uninstall VMware Tools, then reinstall VMware Tools for Workstation 7.x. For more information, see General VMware Tools installation instructions (1014294).
