Authenticating Kiosk users in View Manager fails with the error: Unknown user name or bad password (2017010)

Symptoms

  • A Kiosk user is unable to log in to View Manager
  • Logging in to View Manager as a Kiosk user fails
  • You see the error:

Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.

  • The Kiosk user password was generated automatically using the vdmadmin command.

Cause

This issue occurs because the -requirepassword option of the vdmadmin command requires clients to provide passwords and is incompatible with the automatically generated passwords.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, do not use the -requirepassword option when enabling the authentication of the View Connection Server instance. This ensures that clients with automatically generated passwords are authenticated without providing a password.

For more information, see the View Administration Guide.
