Creating a new backup job in VMware Data Recovery fails with the error: trouble reading files, error - 3956 (operation failed) (2016550)

Symptoms

  • Cannot create a new backup job in VMware Data Recovery (VDR)
  • Creating a backup job in VDR fails
  • You see the error:

    trouble reading files, error - 3956 (operation failed)

Cause

This issue occurs if a wrong DNS entry is configured for the VDR appliance.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, ensure that the DNS is configured correctly.
 
To verify this, run these commands from both vCenter Server and the VDR Appliance:
  • nslookup IP
  • ping IP
  • nslookup short_name
  • ping short_name
  • nslookup FQDN
  • ping FQDN
