Virtual Machines display a black screen if the vSphere Client is installed with older versions of VMware Player or VMware Workstation (2014243)

Symptoms

Virtual Machine consoles are displaying a black screen.
You see this message on the console:

The VMRC console has successfully reconnected.
This issue occurs when VMware Player 2.0 or VMware Workstation 6.0 are installed on the machine where the vSphere Client is installed
This issue only occurs with vSphere 5.x Virtual Machines.

Cause

This issue can occur when out of date versions of VMware Player or VMware Workstation are installed on the machine where the vSphere Client is installed.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform one of these options:

Uninstall VMware Player 2.0 or VMware Workstation 6.0.
Upgrade to VMware Player 5.0 or VMware Workstation 9.0. For more information, see
