Manually downloading threat definitions for VMware vCenter Protect
Purpose
This article provides steps to manually download the latest threat definitions for vCenter Protect Threat Protection.
This is applicable only if you are running Protect and agents in an environment that has no connection to the Internet.
Note: The threat definitions for vCenter Protect are provided by Sunbelt.
Resolution
To manually update the threat definitions on the Protect console machine:
- Navigate to http://updates.sunbelt-software.com/SPURS/spurs.aspx?product=430&appversion=3.1.2215.0&vendor=Shavlik&language=EN&package=ThreatDef&stage=0&RequestorPackageVersion=0.
This provides a string similar to:
http://av.shavlik.com/av/CSE39-EN-11552-F.sbr.sgn?MD5=27934EC54E789F05BFC67F2A16CB7CE3&SIZE=84257418
Note: This is only a sample link. Do not download with this link.
In this string, CSE39-EN-11552-F.sbr.sgn indicates the latest available thread definition version. - Copy the string that you are given on this Web page and paste it in a browser.

You see a prompt to download the latest threat definitions file. -
Save this file to the following location on your Protect console machine:
Windows Vista/2008/Windows 7 – C:\ProgramData\Shavlik Technologies\NetChk\ThreatData
Windows XP/2003 – C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Shavlik Technologies\NetChk\ThreatData
If you are using a distribution server for your agents, ensure to synchronize the distribution server.
To synchronize the distribution server:
- In the Protect console, navigate to Manage > Distribution Servers.
- Click the Synchronize tab.
- Click Synchronize Engines & Definitions.
