User profile is inaccessible after it has been created on the Persona Management Repository (2013589)

Symptoms

  • A user profile is inaccessible to the user after it has been created with Persona Management
  • A user profile is inaccessible if a previously existing profile directory was used.

Cause

This issue can occur if the user is not the owner of their profile directory.

Resolution

To verify ownership, open the VMware View Persona log file and search for bEnabled. The Persona log file is located on the View desktop in:
  • Windows Vista/Windows 7 – C:\ProgramData\VMware\VDM\Logs\VMWVvp.txt
  • Windows XP – C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VDM\logs\VMWVvp.txt
If the value for bEnabled is 0, the user is not the owner of the directory and user permissions are not setup correctly. The log file should display bEnabled as 1 if the user is the owner and permissions are correct. For information on verifying that the profile repository permissions are setup correctly, see the VMware View 5.0 Administration Guide and .

For more information about taking ownership of a directory, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 308421.

Note: If the user's profile contains any failed profile reconciliation attempts, these must be deleted before profile replication will function properly. These directories remain in the user profile after logoff and are named as a guid string such as {1234-5678-91011}. Make sure the user(s) are logged off before deleting these directories.
