Host Profiles reports error: Hosts do not have shared datastores (2010671)

Symptoms

  • The cluster on the vCenter 5.0 Profile Compliance tab for a HA/DRS cluster (made up solely of ESX or ESXi 4.x hosts) appears as non-compliant, and displays this warning:

    Cluster Compliance Against Cluster Requirements
    Hosts do not have shared datastores

  • The vCenter Server vpxd logs displays messages similar to:
2011-11-09T10:09:06.930Z [09352 info 'Default' opID=9C408695-000000C7] [MoHostProfile::CheckCompliance] Entity domain-c75 is not compliant with profile Default_DRS_HA_FT, failure seen (vim.profile.ComplianceResult.ComplianceFailure) [
--> (vim.profile.ComplianceResult.ComplianceFailure) {
--> dynamicType = <unset>,
--> failureType = "NoSharedDatastore",
--> message = (vmodl.LocalizableMessage) {
--> dynamicType = <unset>,
--> key = "com.vmware.vim.profile.ComplianceFailure.NoSharedDatastore.label",
--> message = "Hosts do not have shared datastores",
--> },
--> expressionName = "SharedDatastorePresent",
--> }
--> ]

  • The vCenter Server PyVmomiServer.log (%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\PyVmomiServer.log displays messages similar to:
[2011-11-09 10:09:06,813 root DEBUG] validateCluster: SharedDatastorePresent

Resolution

This is a known issue. A workaround is currently unavailable.

For vCenter Server 5.0 customers, HA/DRS clusters exclusively made up of legacy ESX/ESXi 4.x hosts,will always be reported as non-compliant, even if they are in fact compliant.

This compliance warning message can be safely ignored.
