System logging not configured (2007658)

If you do not configure system logging with the correct log destination on the ESXi host, you receive an event error message. This error occurs if neither of the Syslog options or are set.

Logs are needed for auditing and checking diagnostic problems.  When the or syslog options are not set, the system does not have a configured log destination.

If you set both Syslog configuration options ( and to empty values, you see the message:

System logging is not configured for host

In the vSphere Client, under the Syslog options (Configure > Software > Advanced Settings), set either or both of these values:
  • - The datastore path to the directory where output logs reside.
  • - The remote host where output logs reside.
