Unable to install ESXi/ESX on Dell R510 with PERC S300 controller (2007524)

Symptoms

  • You are unable to install ESXi/ESX on a Dell R510 with the PowerEdge RAID Controller (PERC) S300 controller.
  • You see the error:

    Error Installation failed, no supported device to write to

Cause

This issue occurs because the PowerEdge RAID Controller (PERC) S300 controller only supports Windows operating systems.
