vCenter Server 5.0 appears to be using old self signed certificates for some functions, even after certificates have been replaced (2006632)

Cause

After replacing vCenter Server certificates, the vSphere Client still prompts you to accept the old self signed certificates while browsing some parts of the GUI, including the summary page for any host.

The vCenter 5.0 includes additional services that did not exist in 4.1 or earlier. One of these services, the Inventory Service, has its own SSL certificates stored in a separate location - by default this is located at C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Inventory Service\ssl

Resolution

To resolve this issue, place a copy of your new certificates in:

Inventory service
:
C
:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Inventory Service\SSL

vCenter Server:
C
:\Program Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\SSL

When the certificates have been placed in these locations and the VMware Inventory Service has been restarted, you are longer prompted to accept a self signed certificate.
