  • This issue occurs when you install VSA Manager as a domain administrator.

Note: If you are experiencing a similar issue but these symptoms do not match your issue exactly, you may have a VSA license that does not match the vCenter Server license. For more information, see VMware vSphere Storage Appliance licensing information (2002309).

Resolution

VSA 1.0 must be installed as a local administrator, as opposed to domain administrator.

Note: In some cases you may need to right-click and "Run As Administrator" even if the installation account is a member of the Administrators security group.

To install VSA as a local administrator:
  1. In Windows on vCenter Server, go to Add/Remove programs and remove VSA Manager.
  2. Log off as the current user.
  3. Log in as local administrator.
  4. Install VSA Manager.
If you do not know or cannot use the local administrator account, use this workaround after uninstalling VSA Manager:
  1. Launch vSphere Client and connect to vCenter Server as the Administrator or using an account that has local administrator account rights.
  2. Click Home.
  3. Click Hosts and clusters.
  4. Click the vCenter Server root level and then click the Permissions tab.
  5. Right-click on an empty area in the right pane and click Add Permission.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Add the user account using which you want to install VSA manager and give the user Administrator privileges in vCenter Server.
  8. Close the vSphere client session.
  9. Install VSA.
