Multi-monitor layouts are reset when the View Client is disconnected from a virtual machine (2006075)

Symptoms

  • Customizations to the View desktop layout when using multiple monitors are reset on disconnect.
  • When you disconnect from and reconnect to the session, windows may resize smaller and are located on top of each other in the upper left corner of your primary monitor.
  • When you move icons and windows to the secondary monitor, they return to the primary monitor when you disconnect from the virtual machine.
  • This issue only affects PCoIP sessions in Windows 7, Vista, and XP. RDP sessions preserve the multi-monitor layout.

Cause

In Windows Vista and 7, the PCoIP server detaches the SVGA driver, which causes the layout to be identified as a single monitor.

In Windows XP, this issue is caused by the way Windows switches between a terminal session and console session from the logon UI to the desktop session.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in VMware View Manager 5.3

Workaround: Connect to the virtual machines using the RDP protocol.

Note: There is no resolution or workaround for Windows XP.
