Managing automatic power options for VMware Server virtual machines (2005246)

Virtual machines hosted on VMware Server can automatically boot when the host is rebooted.  This may be desirable when the virtual machine in question provides services such as DNS or LDAP authentication and the physical machine is not readily accessible.

To configure the automatic power options in VMware Server:

  1. From the VMware Server home page, go to Start > VMware > VMware Server > VMware Server Homepage.
  2. Enter your user name and password.
  3. Under the Inventory list, select the host machine.
  4. In the Commands pane, select Virtual Machine Starup/Shutdown Settings.
  5. Enable Allow virtual machines to start and stop automatically with the system.
  6. In the Startup Order box, select the the virtual machine you would like to have automatically start. Move it up to Any Order, or Specified Order if you are configuring options for more than one virtual machine.
