Moving from Fusion 2 or 3 to Fusion 4 (2005070)
Purpose
Resolution
To upgrade from Fusion 2 or 3 to Fusion 4, you must uninstall the previous version of Fusion before installing Fusion 4.
Note: Uninstalling the previous Fusion version does not affect any of the existing virtual machines. If you want to remove your virtual machine, you must locate it using Finder and then either drag it to the trash or right-click the file and click Move to trash. The default save location for your virtual machine is in your Documents/Virtual Machines folder.
For information on uninstalling Fusion 2 or 3, see Manually uninstalling VMware Fusion (1017838).
For information on installing Fusion 4, see Downloading and installing VMware Fusion (2014097).
After installing Fusion 4, when you try to start your virtual machine, it prompts you to upgrade the virtual machine. Click Upgrade. This upgrades the hardware version of the virtual machine to 8, which is the hardware version of Fusion 4. This allows you to use the full functionality offered by Fusion 4. For more information about hardware versions, see Virtual machine hardware versions for Fusion (1022060).
