Launching the VMware View Manager Administration page fails with the error: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage (2004759)

Symptoms

  • Cannot launch the VMware View Manager Administration page
  • Launching the View Administration page fails
  • You see an error similar to:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

  • The debug logs of the Connection Server show the following error:

<SGHealth-federatedtask-1386859901946> [SslUtils] Could not decode certificate failure reason ( in )

Cause

  • This issue can occur if Port 443 is in use by another application. Routing and Remote access is a common service that may be using Port 443.
  • This can also happen if the certificate friendly name is "VDM" instead of "vdm".

Resolution

Ensure that the certificate "friendly name" in the certificates management console (MMC) is set to vdm (lowercase). If it is not set correctly, modify the setting and restart the View Connection Server service.

To verify if another application is using Port 443:
  1. Open a command prompt.
  2. Run this command:

    netstat –ano

  3. Look for an entry in the Local Address that includes the broker IP address and 443.
If port 443 is used by another application, identify the process name of the application and disable the service that corresponds to the process.

To identify the process name of the application and disable the service that corresponds to the process:
  1. Identify the Process ID that uses Port 443.
  2. Open Task Manager
  3. Click the Processes tab
  4. Click View > Select Columns....
  5. Ensure PID (Process Identifier) is selected.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Select the Show processes from all users option.
  8. Click PID to sort the table by Process ID.
  9. Identify the process name that matches the PID.
  10. Open the Services Console.
  11. Stop and disable the service that corresponds to the process identified in Step 9.
If no other application is using Port 443:
  1. Collect the View Server logs.
  2. Try rebooting the View Connection Server.
  3. If the issue persists even after restarting the View Connection Server, file a support request with VMware Support and quote this Knowledge Base article ID (2004759) in the problem description. For more information, see How to Submit a Support Request.
