ESX Server 3i version 3.5 Installable June 2011 release is distributed as an Installable CD that can be applied as a fresh installation. This installable CD contains these individual bundles, which are the same as the individual bundles that can be seen in ESX Server 3.5 Patches download page:
  • ESXe350-201105401-I-SG: Updates Firmware
  • ESXe350-201105402-T-SG: Updates VMware Tools
  • ESXe350-200911203-C-UG: U5 Vi-client
ESX Server 3i version 3.5 Installable June 2011 CD contains all the fixes contained in ESX Server 3i version 3.5 Update 5 Installable and these  patches released after ESX Server 3i version 3.5 Update 5 Installable until June 2, 2011:

What you need to know about the Secure Key Update

This Installable CD contains ESX Secure Key Update ESXe350-201012401-I-BG. For more information on this patch, see Critical Impact: VMware ESXi 3.5, Patch ESXe350-201012401-I-BG: Apply this patch to continue applying patches on ESXi 3.5 hosts after June 2011 (1030002). If you have not applied this patch by June 1, 2011, you will not be able to apply any patches from then on. To get your hosts updated with ESX Server 3i version 3.5 is to apply this Installable CD as fresh install. Alternatively, upgarde to ESXi 4.0 Update 1 Installable.  

Installation and Upgrade

Read the Installation Guide for step-by-step guidance on installing and configuring ESX Server and VirtualCenter. Although the installations are straightforward, several subsequent configuration steps are essential. In particular, ensure that you read:
Note: Upgrading from ESX Server 3i version 3.5 Installable June 2011 to ESXi 4.0 Installable is not supported. However, you can upgrade to ESXi 4.0 Update 1 Installable.
 
VMware recommends upgrading to:
  • VMware Tools version 7.4.8
  • Windows SVGA driver version 11.4.3.3

Licensing Free ESX Server 3i version 3.5

Starting with the Update 2 release of ESX Server 3i version 3.5 Installable and ESX Server 3i version 3.5 Embedded, you can download and license your software for free. For more information on how to apply the free license to your software, see Licensing the free edition of ESXi 3.5 (1006481) 
Note: The free license is not supported for lower versions of ESX Server 3i.
