Build Number Mismatch When Installing VMware Tools In Guest Operating Systems (1972)

Details

The build number of the version of VMware Tools installed in my virtual machine does not match the build number of my version of ESX Server. Why?

Solution

The build number of a version of VMware Tools installed in a virtual machine may not match the build number of your release of ESX Server. This may be a result of an upgrade to ESX Server or because the virtual machine was migrated from a host running a different version. VMware Tools is maintained as a separate component of ESX Server, and unmatched build numbers do not indicate that you need to update either VMware Tools or ESX Server.
