VirtualCenter Listed Available Memory Resource for New Virtual Machines is Incorrect (1969)

How do I determine if I have sufficient memory resources available to create a new virtual machine? How do I refresh the available memory resource listed for new virtual machines?

Solution

The amount of memory available depends upon the number and requirements of the virtual machines that are powered on or off.

The available memory displayed on the Host Summary page is updated only when one or more of the following occurs:

  • A new virtual machine is created.
  • The Create a New Virtual Machine Wizard is started.
  • A template is deployed.
  • A virtual machine is deleted.

If you do not change the state of any virtual machine, the amount of available memory listed does not change.

To update the display of the Host Summary page, power on the virtual machine, wait for two minutes, then refresh the value by adding a new virtual machine.
