VirtualCenter 1.3 Reports the Wrong Number of CPUs in Dual-Core Host

Why does VirtualCenter 1.3 report a higher number of CPUs in my dual-core system than what actually exists?

Solution

AMD Dual-core processor support was not implemented until ESX Server 2.5.2 and VirtualCenter 1.3. If you installed ESX Server 2.5.2 and tried to connect with an earlier version of VirtualCenter such as 1.2, when you try to install and connect VirtualCenter 1.3, it shows the wrong number of processors in your dual-core system.

To resolve this issue, check the version of ccagent on your ESX Server system by running the command rpm -qa on the service console. The result should show that no ccagent is installed.

If rpm -qa does show a version of ccagent installed, remove it. As root on the service console, run the command:

     rpm -e VMware-ccagent-esx-2.5.0-11343
