On ESX Server 2.5.2 patch 1, ESX Server 2.5.1 patch 1, ESX Server 2.1.2 patch 4, and ESX Server 2.0.1 patch 4, virtual machines running a Windows NT 4.0 guest operating system with a vmxnet virtual network adapter lose network connectivity after a short period.

How can I fix networking on my virtual machines?

Solution

To work around this problem, use the vlance network adapter. If doing so is not feasible, download a patched vmxnet driver for Windows NT from www.vmware.com/download/esx/esx2-16515update.html.
