Default Maximum Size of a File Allowed by VMFS is 144GB, Not 456GB

Details

What is the default maximum size of a file allowed by VMFS?

Solution

The ESX Server Administration Guide for ESX Server 2.5.0 states (on page 231), "If you plan to create virtual machines with virtual disks larger than the default maximum size of 144GB, change the value in the Max File Size field".

The default in the product is actually 456GB. You can change the value in the Max File Size field to increase or decrease the maximum virtual disk size.
