Why does my migration with VMotion to a target machine with a maxed-out network switch fail?

Solution

When you migrate with VMotion a virtual machine to a target machine on which the networking switch is maxed out, the networking for the virtual machine is disabled.

The migration with VMotion is successful, but a message similar to the following appears: Failed to initialize ethernet1. Couldn't allocate memory for the handle.

The target switch (in this case, a network device such as vmnic0) is beneath the network name, such as Network0.

To work around this problem, manually ascertain that there are only up to 31 virtual machines attached to the target network switch before you perform a migration with VMotion.

Or, you can upgrade to VirtualCenter version 1.3 or later.
