Time Can Be Set to Synchronize Between Guest Operating System and Console Once Every Minute, Not Second
Details
Solution
Some VMware documentation claims that you can set the time to synchronize between the guest operating system and the console operating system once every second. For example, the section titled "Synchronizing the Time Between the Guest and Service Consoles" on page 50 of the VMware ESX Server 2 Administration Guide, www.vmware.com/pdf/esx25_admin.pdf states:
The guest service can synchronize the date and time in the guest operating system with the time in the service console once every second.
Other VMware documentation reports that you can set the time to synchronize every minute. www.vmware.com/support/gsx3/doc/tools_guestd_sync_gsx.html#1055663 claims:
The VMware Tools service can synchronize the date and time in the guest operating system with the time in the host operating system once every minute.
This latter documentation is correct. If you choose to synchronize time between the guest and host operating systems, time is synchronized once every minute.
