VMotion Uses One Port on Virtual Switch, Leaving 31 for Virtual Machines

I connected 32 virtual Ethernet adapters to my virtual switch. Thirty-one adapters come up and one returns the error, "Network cable is unplugged." Why can't I run 32 Ethernet adapters on my virtual switch?

Solution

A single virtual switch should support network connectivity for 32 virtual Ethernet adapters. If you have configured the machine to enable VMotion, however, it uses one port of the virtual switch. With VMotion enabled, the switch supports up to 31 virtual Ethernet adapters.
