Upgrade of a GSX Server Template Fails with Invalid Datastore Format Message

Details

When you attempt to upgrade a GSX Server template to ESX Server 3.x format, the upgrade might fail and display the error message, "Invalid datastore format <file location>." This occurs if the GSX Server template is connected to a CD-ROM or floppy device backed by an .iso or .img file in Windows file system format. ESX Server 3.x does not recognize this file format.

Solution

To resolve this issue, upgrade the GSX Server template to ESX Server 2.x format. You can then upgrade the template to ESX Server 3.x format.
