"No Such Object" Error When Authenticating Users or Groups, or Creating a Package

Details

When I am enabling access in the policy editor for an individual user or a group in my Active Directory domain, I see the following message:
Error during Active Directory operation: No such object

How can I enable authentication for a user or group for this virtual machine?

I also see this message when I am creating a package, but the package is successfully created. Will I experience any problems with this package?

Solution

The Active Directory authentication in VMware ACE works only if the users and groups are created in the default Users container for your Active Directory domain. You cannot create a user or a group in a different organizational unit and then have that user or group authenticated to access a virtual machine.

If you deploy a package that contains users or groups you created in an organizational unit other than the default Users container for your Active Directory domain, then the authentication does not work correctly. The only users or groups that can access a virtual machine in the package are the ones that were created in the default Users container for your Active Directory domain.
