Disconnected USB Device Still Shown in VMware ACE Toolbar

Details

I was using a USB device in a VMware ACE virtual machine, then physically unplugged the device from my host computer. The device is still listed in the toolbar of the VMware ACE application. How can I remove the toolbar listing for a disconnected device?

Solution

Depending on the settings for the VMware ACE application's user preferences, USB devices connected by the virtual machine may be represented by buttons on the toolbar or by menu items on the Connect menu.

Before unplugging a USB device from the host computer, you should disconnect it from the virtual machine using the VMware ACE controls.

If devices are represented as toolbar buttons, click the button for the appropriate device to disconnect it.

If devices are represented as menu items, choose Connect, then choose the appropriate device on the menu to disconnect it.

After disconnecting the device from the virtual machine, the device automatically reconnects itself to the host. To disconnect the device from the host, right-click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the host's system tray, then choose Safely Remove Hardware.
