VMware ACE Sometimes Slow to Change Network Connection Type When Switching Zones

Details

I have configured network quarantine settings for a VMware ACE virtual machine so it uses different network connection types -- bridged networking in one zone and NAT in another, for example. When my end user moves the computer from one zone to another, the network connection type seems to change slowly or not at all. What can I do?

Solution

VMware ACE may be slow to change the type of network connection used by the virtual machine -- or may fail to make the change -- if the virtual machine's clock is running extremely slowly. The problem may be seen if a host running VMware ACE goes into standby or hibernate mode, then resumes normal operation.

If you encounter this problem, your end user can force the change by closing the VMware ACE window, then launching the virtual machine again.

Another method of forcing the change is by using the guest operating system's controls to disable the virtual machine's Ethernet adapter, then enable it again.
