VMware ACE Virtual Machine with Powered On Snapshot May Show Unexpected Behavior
Details
I created a virtual machine in VMware ACE Manager and took a snapshot while the virtual machine was running. Then, in VMware ACE Manager, I clicked Run in VMware ACE. Some elements in the VMware ACE interface are not working and I cannot close the VMware ACE window. What do I need to do?
Solution
Certain interface elements may become unavailable and you may encounter problems shutting down the virtual machine if you have taken a snapshot of the virtual machine while it is powered on, set the VMware ACE application to exit by powering off the virtual machine and reverting to the snapshot, then run the virtual machine by choosing Run in VMware ACE.
In addition, you are not able to close the VMware ACE window because the virtual machine reverts to the snapshot, which is a snapshot of a running virtual machine.
There are three ways of breaking out of this loop. The first two are available only if you have enabled the appropriate options for the virtual machine.
- If you have enabled the power options on the troubleshooting menu, you can close the VMware ACE window by choosing VMware ACE>Troubleshoot>Power Off and Exit.
- If you have enabled the end user to set preferences, choose VMware ACE>Preferences, change the exit behavior to Power off the virtual machine, click OK, then click the Close button to close the VMware ACE window..
- If you have enabled neither of the above menu options, you
must open Task Manager on the host computer and end the following
two processes:
- vmplayer.exe
- vmware-vmx.exe
