Slow Inbound Network Performance with Citrix Metaframe Presentation Server/Citrix License Server in a Virtual Machine

I'm experiencing slow inbound network performance when running Citrix Metaframe Presentation Server and the Citrix License server in a virtual machine. What can I do to correct this problem?

Solution

Running Citrix Metaframe Presentation Server in a virtual machine at the same time as the Citrix License Server can result in the virtual machine experiencing a ten-fold decrease in the speed of inbound (rx) network traffic. This is caused by an interaction between the ESX Server vmxnet driver and the Citrix License Server.

There are two workarounds for this problem:

Use the ESX Server vlance network driver instead of the vmxnet driver.
Update your version of ESX Server with one of the following patches:
Note: After applying these patches, you must upgrade the version of VMware Tools running in your virtual machines.
