VLAN Tags Incorrectly Sized

I'm using a network adapter to process VLAN tags in ESX Server 2.1.2. My virtual machines that use a VLAN connection aren't receiving network traffic, but my other virtual machines work fine. Why?

Solution

The initial release of ESX Server 2.1.2 did not resize VLAN packets to 802.1Q-specified length after processing them. Certain network adapters may discard the truncated packets.

VMware ESX Server 2.1.2 Upgrade Patch 3 includes a system update that adds extra padding to small VLAN packets to compensate for some network adapters, which fail to pad sufficiently.
