Installing VMware Tools in Unsupported Linux Distributions

We encourage you to refer to the list of Linux distributions and that are supported guests for your VMware product. This list is in the documentation for your VMware product (see http://www.vmware.com/support/guestnotes/doc/). You may or may not be able to install VMware Tools in an unsupported distribution.

If you are running a supported Linux distribution and vmware-config-tools.pl generates an error message saying there are no prebuilt modules that match your running kernel and fails to compile, please file a support request.

If you are running an unsupported distribution or using an unsupported kernel version and are not able to compile modules or install VMware Tools, we encourage you to explore the VMware community support forums. There are regular discussions on the forums about the latest development kernels and workarounds for building VMware Tools modules.
