Server Cannot Boot into the Linux SMP Kernel from the Service Console for Debugging
Details
I want to boot into the Linux SMP kernel from the service console for debugging, troubleshooting, or other maintenance work. Why can't my server boot into this kernel?
Solution
Certain servers do not support the Red Hat Linux SMP kernel on which the service console operating system is based. If booting into this kernel does not work, you can boot into the Linux UP kernel. Select the linux-up option at the Lilo: prompt.
This behavior has been reported on the following servers:
- IBM eServer xSeries: x260, x366, x460, x3800, x3850, x3950
- Dell Power Edge 6850
-
HP DL585G2, HP DL580G3, HP DL580G4
Note: On the HP DL580G3 server, follow the workaround described at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1081.
