ESX Server Displays "bugNr=34866" Console Message and Fails to Boot

My ESX Server system failed to boot. An error message with the text "bugNr=34866" is displayed on the console. How can I fix this?

Solution

On certain systems, ESX Server may incorrectly evaluate the clock speed of the physical CPUs. This can prevent the system from booting ESX Server, resulting in the "bugNr=34866" console message. To resolve this problem, update the version of ESX Server. There are two ways to update your system: If you are not ready to upgrade ESX Server at this time, try rebooting. You may need to reboot several times. Since the clock speed evaluation problem affects only the boot-up process, ESX Server continues to run if the system boots successfully. If you are already running one of the releases listed above, or a later release, and you still experience this problem, please file a support request.
