VirtualCenter Users Cannot Access Client Log File

Details

Why can a non-Administrative user not access the client log file?

Solution

In VirtualCenter, the client log file is stored in C:\Program Files\VMware\VMWare VirtualCenter\Client.log. Typical users do not have access privileges to this directory. Because the log file is created with write permission, you need to also have write permission for the directory where the file is placed.

To resolve this problem, allow users access to this directory while they use the VirtualCenter client.

In VirtualCenter 1.2 the location of the client log is changed. Instead of the file being in the VirtualCenter installation directory, the file is stored in either the Temp or TMP directory of the current user. For example C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Temp\. If that directory is not found then it will be in C:\Temp\.
