Why does my Web service have difficulties in large environments?

Solution

In a large environment, with over 500 virtual machines, it is recommended that you turn off all performance collectors if the VirtualCenter Web service is being used.

To turn off all performance collectors in large environments:

  1. Set the periodicPerfRefreshEnable parameter to false.

    You can find this parameter in the subject section of the vmaConfig.xml configuration file. The file is located in:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\VMA

  2. Restart the VMware VirtualCenter Web service from the Windows services control panel.

To correct this issue, upgrade to VirtualCenter 1.2.1 or later.
