Using VirtualCenter 2.0.1 UI Option to Upgrade Legacy Virtual Machine Hardware on ESX Server 2.x System Does Not Work
Details
I use VirtualCenter 2.0.1 to manage my ESX Server 2.x system. On my ESX Server 2.x system, I have virtual machines that use older hardware versions, such as ESX Server 1.5.x or GSX Server 2.x. VirtualCenter 2.0.1 provides a UI option to upgrade old virtual machine hardware to ESX Server 2.x, but the command doesn't work. Is this function supported?
Solution
Because ESX Server 2.x doesn't support virtual hardware upgrades through VirtualCenter, the UI option available in VirtualCenter 2.0.1 doesn't work for any legacy hardware upgrades performed on ESX Server 2.x systems.
To upgrade your legacy virtual machine residing on an ESX Server 2.x host, run the remote console interface. Access the remote console from the MUI on the ESX Server 2.x host.
