NOT_IMPLEMENTED Errors in Windows NT, 2000, XP, and Server 2003 virtual machines on ESX Server 2.0 and 2.1
Details
- Reconfigure a Windows Server 2003, XP, 2000, or NT virtual machine from the vmxbuslogic to the vmxlsilogic SCSI controller.
- Install Windows Server 2003 SP1 in a virtual machine configured to use the vmxlsilogic SCSI controller.
Solution
- Windows Server 2003 (SP1 includes version 1.10)
- Windows XP
- Windows 2000
- Windows NT
The guest operating system cannot boot, and the virtual machine displays an error message that includes the text NOT_IMPLEMENTED.
To avoid this problem, use LSI Logic driver version 1.09 or upgrade to ESX Server 2.5. When you are following the steps in the VMware ESX Server 2.1 Administration Guide, you are asked to to visit the LSI Logic Web site to download the driver. You can download the drivers supported by ESX Server 2.0 and 2.1 from this location on the LSI Logic website.
Extract the .zip file selected for your specific Operating System. Inside this archive is lsipseud.inf, which Windows uses to install the driver. To finish switching to the LSI Logic controller, continue with the steps in the ESX Server 2.1 Administration Guide.
