Error: "Permission Denied" When Starting a Virtual Machine

Details

Attempts to start my virtual machine on a Linux host give me an error message that says, "Permission denied". What is wrong?

Solution

If you start your virtual machine by running
./.cfg from a command line or by double-clicking on the configuration file (.cfg) from the Linux file manager, the problem most likely indicates that you do not have permission to execute the configuration file. To add execute permission for the file, use the command

chmod +x .cfg
