Updated version of vmrun for VMware Workstation 6.5.x addresses security issue CVE-2011-1126 (1035509)
Details
This KB article provides an updated version of vmrun for VMware Workstation 6.5.x running on Linux. This update has a fix for the security issue identified by CVE-2011-1126. See VMware security advisory VMSA-2011-0006 for more information on the security issue.
Versions of VMware Workstation 6.5.x that run on Windows are not affected.
Note: An updated version of vmrun for Workstation 7.x is provided with VMware Workstation 7.1.4. See VMSA-2011-0006 for for more information.
Solution
Replace
vmrun on the Workstation 6.5.x host system with the vmrun executable file attached to this KB article:- On the Workstation 6.5.x host system, log in as root.
- Locate
vmrun. The default location is/usr/bin/vmrun. - Move
vmrunto a backup location. - Download and extract the 32-bit or 64-bit
vmrunexecutable file attached to this KB article. -
(Optional) Verify the MD5 or SHA1 checksum of the downloaded file.

Copy the
vmrunexecutable file to the folder wherevmrunwas located. -
Verify the build number of the freshly installed version of
vmrun. The expected build number is 365538 .
