Installing the vCenter Configuration Manager Collector on a non-English operating system (1035034)

Symptoms

  • Cannot install a vCM Collector on a non-English operating system
  • Installing the vCM Collector on a non-English operating system fails
  • Installing the vCM Collector on a Spanish operating system fails
  • Installing the vCM Collector on a French operating system fails

Purpose

This article provides a workaround to complete the installation of the vCM Collector on a non-English operating system.

Resolution

To install the vCM Collector on a non-English operating system, follow the instructions in the vCM Hardware and Software Requirements and the Installation and Getting Started Guide, with the exception of these changes:
  1. Install SQL Server with the Latin1 General code page (SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS).
  2. Set the default language to English for the SQL logins for each of these accounts:
    • The install user
    • VCM service account
    • SQL Server service account
    • SQL Agent service account
    • Local System account
  3. Set the date/time format, in Control Panel > Local Settings, to US English for each of these accounts:
    • The install user
    • VCM service account
    • SQL Server service account
    • SQL Agent service account
    • Local System account
  4. After the installation completes, run the SQL scripts attached to this article in the vCM database.

Additional Information

The changes mentioned in this article have not been verified for double byte languages. All testing for the provided work around has occurred in English, French, and Spanish.
