Upgrading to Lab Manager 4.0.2 fails the .NET 2.0 SP1 pre-check when the requirements are met (1031409)

Upgrading to Lab Manager 4.0.2 fails.
The pre-check for .NET 2.0 SP1 minimum fails when .NET 2.0 SP1 or SP2 is installed already.
You see the error:

error code 5004
The Installer log contains entries similar to:

(PreCheck) [16:37:43:312]: Could not find: 'C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4\'.
(PreCheck) [16:37:43:250] (Error): The system cannot find the file specified.

This issue occurs when the installer fails to detect the right path for .NET Framework during the pre-check stage.

You must have .NET 2.0 SP1 or SP2 installed before proceeding.

To resolve this issue, uninstall .NET Framework 4.0 and restart the upgrade.
