Summaries and Symptoms

Powering on and powering off a single virtual machine or running I/O on the virtual machine causes a consistent decrease in the available memory. The VMkernel log contains memory allocation error messages similar to:

vmkernel: 127:08:11:41.044 cpu16:4306)WARNING: vmklinux26: dma_alloc_coherent: Out of memory Apr 21 02:01:49 ESX7-JL-PRD vmkernel: 127:08:11:41.044 cpu16:4306)<3>failure at vmkdrivers/src_current/drivers/scsi/mpt2sas/mpt2sas_ctl.c:686/_ctl_do_mpt_command()!

Patch Download and Installation

See the VMware vCenter Update Manager Administration Guide for instructions on using Update Manager to download and install patches to automatically update ESX 4.1 hosts.

To update ESX 4.1 hosts without using Update Manager, download the patch ZIP file from http://support.vmware.com/selfsupport/download/ and install the bulletin by using esxupdate from the command line of the host. For more information, see the ESX 4.1 Patch Management Guide.
