Backing up a vCenter Chargeback database and configuration files (1026796)
Details
vCenter Chargeback does not include any runtime backup policy. Therefore, you must regularly back up the vCenter Chargeback database and configuration files. You must also back up the database and the configuration files before upgrading your existing vCenter Chargeback installation. A backup of the database and configuration files helps you restore the system and the data in the case of an upgrade failure or any system failure.
Solution
Back Up vCenter Chargeback Database
VMware does not provide any tools or specify any policy for backing up the vCenter Chargeback database. You can use the standard tools and policies provided by the database provider.
However, ensure that the same user credentials are used for backing up and restoring the database. Restoring the database might fail if you use different user credentials from the one used for backing up the database.
Back Up vCenter Chargeback Configuration Files
You must back up the vCenter Chargeback configuration files listed in the following table.
| Category | File Paths |
| vCenter Chargeback Backend |
|
| vCenter Chargeback Frontend |
|
| Embedded Data Collectors (Data collectors installed along with vCenter Chargeback.) |
|
| Individually Installed Data Collectors (Data collectors that are installed after installing vCenter Chargeback) |
|
| Uninstallation Folder |
|
You can back up the configuration files and folders once every week. However, as a best practice, back up the vCenter Chargeback database every day.
