Collecting diagnostic information for VMware vCloud Director 1.x / 5.1.x (1026312)

Purpose

VMware Technical Support routinely requests diagnostic information from you when a support request is handled. This diagnostic information contains product specific logs and configuration files from the host on which the product is run. The information is gathered using a specific script or tool for each product.
This article provides procedures for obtaining diagnostic information for VMware vCloud Director.

Resolution

The vmware-vcd-support script collects host log information as well as vCloud Director logs:
  • For vCloud Director 1.0, run /opt/vmware/cloud-director/bin/vmware-vcd-support.
  • For vCloud Director 1.5, run /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/bin/vmware-vcd-support.
  • For vCloud Director 5.1, run /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/bin/vmware-vcd-support.
Note: For multiple cells and packages, individual log bundles can be collected as one centralized (NFS) bundle with the command ./vmware-vcd-support --all --multicell

When you run the vmware-vcd-support script, it creates a file in the folder. For example:

vmware-vcd-support-2010-07-11.25214.tgz

This table provides information about vCloud Director logs:

Log Name Description
cell.log

vcloud-container-debug.log
Debug-level log messages from the cell.
vcloud-vmware-watchdog.log
Informational log messages from the cell watchdog. For example, it records when the cell fails or is restarted.

Note: The logs for the VMware vCloud Director are located in /opt/vmware/cloud-director/logs.
