Configuring a Virtual Machine to Use More than One Virtual Processor

Details

How do I configure a virtual machine to use more than one virtual processor? Are multiprocessor virtual machines supported?

Solution

Virtual machines with multiple processors are supported in ESX Server 2.x, with the SMP add-on. ESX Server version 3.x and later fully support more than one virtual processor.

When you create a virtual machine with ESX Server 2.x, you can choose to create it with one or two virtual processors. For more information on adding processors to your ESX Server 2.x virtual machine, see the section "Configuring a Virtual Machine to Use More than One Virtual Processor" in the ESX Server 2.x online manual: www.vmware.com/support/esx2/doc/esx20admin_smp_vm_vms.html#1050258.

For more information about updating your ESX Server license (such as adding Virtual SMP), contact VMware or your authorized sales representative.
