vMotion fails between hosts using Intel Xeon 56xx or 36xx series processors to hosts using specific Intel processors (1021023)

Details

You receive a vMotion migration error when migrating between a host using Intel Xeon Processor 56xx series or 36xx series to hosts using either Intel Xeon Processor 34xx series or Intel Core i3/i5 processors.

Solution

This issue is resolved in ESX 4.0 Update 2. For ESX/ESXi 3.5, this issue is resolved with the following patches depending on the product you are using:

If you do not wish to update or patch ESX/ESXi in order to resolve this issue, as a workaround you can modify the CPU mask using the following mask information.
